MiHR develops and maintains two suites of occupational standards for the Canadian mining sector:
National Occupational Standards
National Occupational Standards (NOS) establish clear, objective benchmarks of the skills and knowledge required for workers to perform in a particular occupation.
National Occupational Training Standards
National Occupational Training Standards (NOTS) provides the learning outcomes and learning objectives that guide quality training, curriculum design and development.
The development and maintenance of each standard is led by a stakeholder committee made up of subject-matter experts from various groups across Canada, including industry, labour and education. Development committees undertake a regular review (five years) of the standards to ensure they remain current and relevant to the Canadian mining industry.
