There is often a disconnect between the needs of mining employers and the skills taught by educational and training institutes. This disconnect results in duplication of training efforts that affects the qualified mobile worker and entry-level workers who have graduated from mining programs.
Overview
The goal of the Canadian Mining Training Recognition Program (CMTRP) is to recognize mine training programs delivered by employers, educational institutions and training organizations that align to MiHR’s National Occupational Training Standards (NOTS). Recognition under the CMTRP would showcase a training program’s:
- Demonstration of commitment and consistency in the delivery of training in the mining industry at a national level
- Validation that a training program’s learning outcomes meet the NOTS
- Excellence in training, skills development and the building of a safe workforce
MiHR has received funding to be able to support employers, educational institutions or training organizations with $10,000 to align and enhance existing occupational training to the learning outcomes in MiHR’s NOTS.
