National Occupational Training Standards

National Occupational Training Standards (NOTS) provides the learning outcomes and learning objectives that guide quality training, curriculum design and development.

Overview

MiHR’s National Occupational Training Standards (NOTS) aligns with MiHR’s National Occupational Standards (NOS) and provides the learning outcomes and learning objectives that guide quality training, curriculum design and development. The development of National Occupational Training Standards (NOTS), informed by the National Occupation Standards (NOS), support the development of the workforce skills needed by employers.

How to Use the Training Standard

The NOTS provides a benchmark for mining industry employers and training providers to evaluate existing training programs, carry out a gap analysis of the content of existing training programs and facilitate the development of new training programs.

Employers and training providers use the NOTS as a reference and resource to develop or modify skills training programs to provide consistent and nationally recognized quality training for the mining industry. Training programs based on the NOTS can be customized to address mine site-specific training needs.

Who Can Use the Training Standards?

  • Course designers and training and evaluation specialists can use the standard in designing, developing and evaluating training, and implementing and evaluating learning programs.
  • Employers and human resource departments can use the NOTS as a reference to determine training requirements, develop job descriptions and succession planning, or set performance expectations for employee, partners or consultants.
  • Educational institutions and training providers can use the standard as a basis for developing and implementing national training and education programs and strategies.
