Virtual Career Fair to Bridge the Gap Between Job Seekers and Mining Employers

OTTAWA – January 10, 2018 – The Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR) invites mining sector employers and job seekers to participate in an innovative virtual career fair on February 6 and 7, 2018, entitled A Career in Mining is More Than You Think.

MiHR’s virtual career fair will provide an unparalleled opportunity for Canadian mining companies to recruit qualified candidates from across the country in a user-friendly online setting. The format provides an easy, effective way to identify and chat with qualified candidates, and to promote career opportunities and increase brand awareness.

This two-day virtual event will encourage employers to leverage wage subsidies that MiHR is providing in order to overcome barriers to recruitment. MiHR is offering employers a wage subsidy up to $12,000 through its Green Jobs program, and up to $7,000 through its Gearing Up program. The Green Jobs Program helps post-secondary graduates gain relevant and meaningful work experience in mining, with a focus on clean technology and innovation, through paid internships. Gearing Up aims to change the way students perceive, pursue and acquire the skills necessary for in-demand mining occupations through the creation of 850 new work-integrated learning opportunities over the next four years.
