I Chose Mining: The Mining Industry Human Resources Council to Award Additional Post-Secondary Scholarships in 2025
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON, August 5, 2025 – MiHR is pleased to announce two additional scholarships are being awarded in 2025 as part of the I Chose Mining. Mining Chose Me. Scholarship Program. Coinciding with an expansion of the national Mining Needs You career awareness campaign, this new total of four $2,500 scholarships is made possible thanks to MiHR’s coalition of Mining Needs You partners: the Mining Association of Canada (MAC), the World Gold Council (WGC), the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) and the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM).
The I Chose Mining. Mining Chose Me. Scholarship Program was launched in 2021 in celebration of MiHR’s 25th anniversary. It has since awarded two $2,500 scholarships per year to exemplary post-secondary students in mining-related programs. Through the addition of two new scholarships, twelve students will have been recognized by the end of 2025 for their outstanding initiative in taking their first steps towards a career in mining.
“On behalf of MiHR and our partner organizations, we are excited to offer two additional I Chose Mining. Mining Chose Me. scholarships this year,” said MiHR’s Executive Director Ryan Montpellier. “Celebrating and rewarding young talent showcases the excellent work mining students are undertaking and helps grow the labour pool needed to advance Canada’s mining industry. Their fresh ideas and perspectives will help shape the future of this critical industry.”
In 2024, scholarships were awarded to two undergraduate students: Catherine Condinho, undertaking a Bachelors of Science – Mining Engineering at Queen’s University, and Nur Erhalac, an engineering student majoring in Mining Engineering Co-Op student at McGill University. Prospective applicants can find information on all prior recipients and complete eligibility and application process details for the 2025 scholarships at MiningNeedsYou.ca.
