Scholarships Recipients Passionate About Mining

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, ON, December 14, 2022 – MiHR is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2022 I Chose Mining. Mining Chose Me. Scholarship: Emma Dodyk, undertaking a Master of Engineering – Mining Engineering, Mining Environment & Sustainability at the University of British Columbia, and Zivi Schaffer, a Bachelor of Science Degree student and Environmental Geoscientist Candidate at Trent University.

Launched in 2021 in celebration of MiHR’s 25^th anniversary, the scholarship program for post-secondary students in mining-related programs is awarding a total of 10 $2,500 scholarships over five fiscal years.

“Working throughout rural British Columbia during my undergraduate degree introduced me to the social impacts mining projects may have on their host communities,” said Emma Dodyk. “I hope to bring this perspective to my career path in closure and reclamation of mine sites. Thank you to MiHR for its generous support of my education in a field I am truly passionate about.”

“As a kid, I was always encouraged to question the Earth and what was inside, to marvel at how extraordinary rock formations came to be,” said Zivi Schaffer. “I am lucky to have attended the Environmental Geoscience program at Trent University and am excited to join my fellow geology enthusiasts in the mining industry so we can explore the Earth together. I am grateful beyond words for this scholarship and hope to return that generosity with a lifetime of contributions towards all disciplines of mining.”
